Delta Plan Glas, revisited

KPN, in announcing some fairly turgid numbers today (missed consensus EBIT, subscriber acquisition and retention costs were up by more than 25% YoY, margin compression in its Dutch mobile business was eight percentage points after adjusting for mobile termination cuts), revealed that it is to deploy fiber to large areas of newbuild residential development (page 29 0f this slide pack). Smell the fear. For those who don't know, the company proposed a fairly radical national fiber plan back in 2003, but got dissed by the cablecos. Elsewhere UGC has reported that it is adding 5,000 homes a week to its VoIP offering in the Netherlands and Hungary on a combined basis (I would love to know the actual split).
