Third fiddle

comScore Networks has launched a monthly ranking of European online properties, and the inaugural edition contains some interesting observations. Most dramatic is that Google's market share in Europe is significantly higher than in the US, at 75% vs. 60% across the pond. There is also an intriguing country-by-country breakdown of the top three which shows Google and Microsoft slugging it out for top position in every country except for Germany and Norway. And for the EuroTelcos, there's a rare bit of good news: they are surprisingly well-represented. Vodafone manages to claw its way to number 10 on a pan-European basis, and in Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland, the local incumbent ranks third. Most staggering to me is that Telenor beats Google into second place in the Norwegian market.
